Jeep Wrangler PHEV Paved, Its High Price Was Offset by Extra Features

Jeep Wrangler PHEV, Models such as the Jeep Wrangler which are difficult to juxtapose with its fuel-efficient character let alone environmentally friendly. But times are starting to change and even Jeep can’t help but stick to the conditions. For this reason, an option for the PHEV model was made by giving birth to the Wrangler 4xe. Debuting September, recently the price was officially released.

During the initial launch period, the Wrangler PHEV was provided with only two trim options, the Sahara and the Rubicon. It is only offered in a four-door body format. Priced starting at 49,490 USD or around Rp. 701.8 million for 4xe Sahara while Rubicon is 53,190 USD (Rp. 754.5 million). This price compared to 9,000 USD (Rp. 127.6 million) is more expensive, but in reality it is not that far.

Interestingly, if you buy a PHEV or EV car in the US, you get relief from a year of tax arrears. The total can reach 7,500 USD, around IDR 106 million. This value can be used as an additional part of the price of the car even though it may not be felt immediately. But at least there is a real effort to boost the environmentally friendly automotive industry so that there is absorption in the market.

Apart from the relief in the form of a tax credit, at least the 4xe high price is offset by the extra completeness. The PHEV model is equipped with a variety of optional devices that the non-hybrid Sahara or Rubicon does not have. When calculated the difference is as low as 2,300 USD for the Sahara or 4,000 USD for the Rubicon.

Take for example the 4xe Sahara, several options must be added yourself if the choice is a conventional model. The cabin has adopted a leather bench material, Uconnect 8.4 entertainment facilities with navigation, and a premium Alpine audio system. While on the outside, he looks charming through the 20-inch rims and the LED lighting package. In addition, there is also a Selec-Trac 4WD with a Dana 44 HD tough axle.

Same story in Rubicon, 4xe model gets optional trim feature as standard. Off road potential affairs are supported by rock-crawling tools via a transfer case containing a 4: 1 low gear. Is the 4: 1 Rock-Trac heavy-duty full-time 4WD package. In addition, other extras are installed in the form of Uconnect 8.4 with navigation tools, Alpine premium audio system, and LED light package.

Both trims themselves carry a 2.0 liter DOHC direct-injection turbo four-cylinder driver. The spur potential is then juxtaposed with the electric motor and eTorque starter-generator which is integrated in the transmission. The total power is quite ferocious, producing 375 hp with 637 Nm of torque to all four wheels via an 8-speed transmission. On paper it clearly surpasses the capabilities of the 3.6 liter V6 unit.

But that is not the only essence of the Wrangler PHEV’s greatness. Thanks to the full electric mode, for such a great potential it is considered “napsuan” in drinking gasoline. Efficiency claims up to 50 MPGe – the value of electric or hybrid energy efficiency that is equivalent to heat from the combustion of gasoline. Keep in mind, the value is not 21 km / l when converted. The clear picture is that the combination of two boosters is claimed to be able to cover a total distance of more than 643 km (400 miles). With a tank capacity of 65 liters (17.2 gallons), it means an approximate fuel consumption of about 9.8 km / l. Wasteful? Compared to the claim of the 8.5 km / l V6 engine and having a much larger power supply, it is certainly not exactly wasteful.

In addition, it also brings out the environmentally friendly side. Carrying a 17.3 kWh battery, the Wrangler 4xe is claimed to be able to cover a distance of about 30 km without the need to start the engine. The thrust of the dynamo generates 134 hp with 245 Nm of torque. There are three driving modes available, “Hybrid” if you want a mixed boost, “Electric” if you only want to take advantage of electric power, and “e-Save” to increase the battery power reserve.

You don’t need to worry if you want to use it offroad and play mud or puddles. Offroad capability is clearly possessed thanks to the specific 4xe Sahara propulsion system or the additional crawling capability on the 4xe Rubicon. Even holding electrical components doesn’t mean the Wrangler 4xe is afraid of water. Inundation height that can be faced is called up to 76.2 cm or 30 inches.
